I don’t know if the all clear was eventually given in Timaru but the yacht clubs here were closed all day as the water in the estuary surged and boiled.

My brother is in Okains bay, Banks Peninsula and rang at 7.15 am to say they had all been evacuated to the hills. Thankfully there was no real drama, but seeing those surges on the news made it very real.
I was watching on the news about all the people who ignored the warnings. Bet they’d be the first to complain if something did happen…
Blah. That day was my birthday, and I got to spend it evacuating when the sirens went off at 6am, and then sleeping to recover from it all after the total dud, lol.
